8/10, Would Spam Again

A while back I wrote a post about the super-dreamy-yet-creepy '80s power ballad "The Glory of Love" by erstwhile Chicago lead singer and impeccably coiffed human Peter Cetera.

If you listen closely, you can hear the wind whooshing
through his hair.
The point of the post was that the lyrics have not aged gracefully, in that they describe an emotionally unhealthy, if not abusive, relationship between the singer and the poor woman on whom he's chosen to bestow a Madonna-whore complex. Also that I don't know what the hell ever happened to Ralph Macchio, but that was more a secondary point.

Turns out he's been making chess-themed
movies with other actors who used to be
really famous. Mystery solved.
Today, out of the blue, someone commented on this two-month-old post. Here's what they had to say:

I am. So. Flattered.

Turns out I didn't write a post about a 30-year-old song with queasy lyrics. I wrote a post about an amazing party venue in Houston! Or maybe I am an amazing party venue in Houston!

I have been known to raise the roof. Yo.
I don't get a ton of spam comments (because let's face it, I don't get a ton of comments overall, which reminds me, you people are slacking...love you). This one just tickles me because it's such a non sequitur. What the hell did I write that would prompt a spambot to wax euphoric about my vibrant atmosphere and great ventilation?

Aside: If your standards for judging an urban hotspot include the quality of its ventilation system, then perhaps you should just raise those standards a tad. Or maybe find work in the booming and lucrative field of HVAC repair.

Or hole up in a nice Jeffries tube somewhere.
Seriously, though, I do consider my little corner of the Internet here to be a comfortable place. I guess I've got to work on the restrooms, though, to raise them above simply "decent." Maybe put out some little mints on a tray, I don't know.

Anyway, thanks, Slow Marks, for your supportive comment on my post. Come back any time. Thursday is Karaoke Night. Enjoy our two-for-one ventilation specials.

Next topic: Eric Carmen's Dirty Dancing soundtrack hit, "Hungry Eyes," aka "How the Hell Did the Lead Singer of the Raspberries Stoop This Low?"

It will be an amazing experience.

  1. You are seriously trying to make me relive my awkward grade school and middle school years, aren't you?

  2. I've always enjoyed the ventilation, but I've never commented on it because, well, you know, I'm all about the karaoke. And now since it's Thursday here's my Shatneresque interpretation of "St. Elmo's Fire"...

  3. The Peter Cetera post was really funny, although I don't remember thinking at the time that it was particularly well-ventilated.

I get quite a few spam comments, although blogger is pretty good about filtering them out and into my spam folder. I like to pretend they're real people behind those comments, trying to be relevant to the topic but just failing very badly.

Curious to know whether the spam filter will kick this one out.....

  5. Our event could not have gone more smoothly. Huge thanks to the amazing managers from Chicago venues for their consummate professionalism and outstanding hospitality. We look forward to many more years at this lovely place.

You're thinking it, you may as well type it. The only comments you'll regret are the ones you don't leave. Also, replies to threads make puppies grow big and strong.
