Purple Pt. 2

OK, so, the response to last night's post about putting a purple streak in my hair has been overwhelmingly positive.

Actually, I have a nose.
But thanks for your concern.

There will be exhaustive coverage of this when it actually happens. Um...this month. Or possibly next. But DEFINITELY happening.

In the meantime, here are today's headlines.

President Trump's "Keep Muslims Out of America Because They're Bad, MMMKay? v2.0" executive order has been blocked by a federal judge in Hawaii.

To quote Press Secretary Sean Spicer,
"Uh-oh, here comes Moana."
Whatever.

Also, the Fed raised its key interest today and indicated that two more raises are coming in 2017.

Also also, there was significant pushback on the idea that the Trump administration - which took power on January - can be credited for anything positive that has happend in Q1-2017.

I don't know.

Here's what I know.

If you want me to put a purple streak in my hair, address that here.

If you oppose that or simply don't care, post about it here.

(The above is honestly delightful, no matter what your opinion...)

Opinons (without obscenely jealous responses) are more than welcome.

Go.

Sorry, Drunkards, But This Is a Super-Obscure Reference

Today, for some odd reason, Jeb Bush announced he's running for President.

Apparently, it was a spur of the moment decision, as he didn't have time to dress like a grown-up in a suit and tie for the occasion.

This look doesn't say "future President" as much as it says
"guy who sits in the cubicle behind me at work."
Also, he didn't have time to print his entire name on his campaign logo.

Ain't nobody got time for that. Except LOSERS.
His official campaign slogan apparently is "Jeb Exclamation Point 2016." It conveys...familiarity? Excitement? Knowledge of when the election will be held?

Yes, all of these things.

Because a nation worrying about terrorism, social divisions, and long-term economic stability needs a leader who understands that we elect a president every four years.

So the Internet has been having a wonderful time with Jeb!'s (I feel I can call him Jeb!, because Jeb!) personal brand, making some amusing analogies and whatnot.

He'll be there for you.
Holy political dynasty!

But for me, only one thought occurred to me when I saw Lil Bro Bush's campaign logo.

And that is: Mystery Science Theater 3000's riff on the classic B-movie The Leech Woman.

LOL.
If you know what I'm talking about, you know what I'm talking about.

If you don't...you don't. Sorry.

Jeb! Jeb! Jeeeeeeeeeeb!

I'm a geek, yeah.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeb!

Be sure to vote the logo of your choice in 2016.

Feedback on Feedback

So a few days ago I showed you guys a picture of my bedroom closet.

And I asked you to identify what percentage of those outfits I've actually worn in the last two years, what's in the dresser on the left, and what my favorite color is.

And the winner is...

OK, well, first of all, nobody got all three answers right. And NOBODY got my favorite color right.

Look at this page, people. Look around the edges and at the title. What's my favorite color?

This guy knows.
It's possible I've even written about my love of purple in this very space. And if you weren't reading me back in 2011, then you now have a homework assignment. Get to ketchin' up.

So everyone blew the color question (partly because there is not a scrap of purple in that closet, which is totally not unfair on my part). The percentage question actually surprised me a little. Several people guessed zero to five percent, and I thought that was the answer myself, until I did the math. Yes, I did math for you guys. I SUFFER FOR THIS BLOG OK.

Anyway, the answer is...somewhere between 10 and 15 percent, because I couldn't remember how long it's actually been since I wore some of these. And unfortunately, I haven't worn any of the vintage pieces you can see in the picture in the last two years. None of them have fit me in at least five years. I sort of harbor the dream that I might return to the weight I was when I bought them. But then I remember that I only achieved the weight I was when I bought them as the result of a long period of extreme stress and trauma.

Hey, if you're a vintage-loving girl who wears a modern size 4-6, I may have some pieces that would interest you. Hit me up, OK?

And that just leaves the question of what's in the dresser. Two of you got it right, and I'm going to call the contest based on your answer, because you both nailed it.

The dresser is full of patterns and fabric. Mostly patterns, but also some in-progress projects that I had to pack away when my sewing room became my little home.

Allie Cat and BekS, you win!

Total victory!
Your prizes are a Chuck's Principles for Life bookmark and an item to be randomly selected from my garage. Hint: It probably won't be a car or a lawn mower.

BekS, I already have your address. Allie Cat, I need yours. Message me pronto.

Next contest: What flavor soup is sitting on my poor unused sewing machine that currently is serving as a makeshift pantry?

Necessity Is the Mother of Blogging

Ack! I haven't posted in three days! I'm a terrible blogger.

I have no rebuttal.
So here's a totally random assemblage of stuff I've been doing, because yeah, I'm fascinating. And to get a post up. My Drunkards understand. Right?

Right.

First and foremost, if you haven't heard, my beloved Bug has been declared a total loss by my insurance company.

Children of the Internet:
This means "I'm sad."
I'm getting what I consider a pretty fair amount of money for my sweet demolished Beetle - certainly a healthy down payment on a replacement vehicle. But it's still very sad for me. And there's a really interesting story to tell about the wreck and subsequent investigation, which I'll tell after the check is safely in my hands.

Next, I bought new bras today.

BOOBS!
If you're a guy reader, you won't get this at all. But if you're a lady, let me say this: There is nothing like the feeling of a new bra that hasn't been shrunk or stretched or twisted out of shape and is soft and accommodating to your girls.

Am I right?

The ladies are nodding their heads, and the gentlemen are picturing breasts. I'm OK with that.

Next...Precocious Daughter recently was selling candles for a school fundraiser, so we all bought some. I looooooove candles, but I'm highly suspicious of cheap, low-quality specimens that don't actually smell good or effectively fill the air with scent when lit. Still, one way or another I was going to end up writing a check for this thing, so I ordered several.

They came in yesterday. And they are wonderful.

Yes, I love candles.
I'm a hippie that way.
Right now I'm burning a lavender candle. It's purple! But also it smells amazing. The peach berry and French vanilla are also amazing. And there still others I haven't tried. Mmmmmmmmmmmm, candles.

Finally, tonight I introduced PDaughter to my favorite movie of all time ever: Psycho.

Totally not a creepy choice for favorite movie.
I have loved this film since I first saw it in sixth grade or so. When PDaughter told me she wanted to see it, I was delighted. So we watched it together and...she loved it.  Maybe not as much as I love it, but goddamn I love this movie. I've seen it I don't know how many times, and I still see new things in it every time I watch it. I'm so glad I was able to introduce her to my favorite movie.

So that's what's new. I'll put together something a bit more clever and entertaining tomorrow. I hope. In the meantime, have a wonderful evening/morning/day, and thanks as always for stopping by.

A Thing for Purple

I bought some Reebok sneakers this weekend. For myself. This is a pretty big deal, because I don't remember the last time I had a pair of sneakers that didn't come from Target or Payless.

The thing is, I don't wear tennies all that often. Being short and vain, I almost always wear heels. Even my "casual" shoes have high heels, or at least wedges. But I draw the line at wearing heels to walk the dog or work in the yard.

Not even these...and yes, I totally own these.
And if you're wondering what kind of shoes I wear to work out, then I laugh at your silly notion that I work out.

Anyway, since I don't spend a lot of time in tennis shoes, I don't put a lot of thought or money into them. Hence, I end up in some cheap - and let's face it, unattractive - shoes. Meanwhile, the rest of the family runs around in their Nikes or their New Balances, mocking my fugly athletic footwear. Well, no more. Now I have decent shoes, too.

And did I mention they're purple?

Purple AND silver!
So they're comfortable and well-made, yada yada. But they're purple sneakers, which automatically makes them the Best Sneakers Ever. I wore them yesterday with purple socks.

I have a thing for purple. If you listen to the pop psychologists, my preference for purple makes me everything from emotionally immature to an egomaniac to gay. Which is silly, because I'm definitely not gay.

That's what I'm talking about.
You may recall that I recently made another long-overdue purchase: new eyeglasses. I've been meaning to post a follow-up to my intensive search for cool new frames but haven't got around to it. But I finally did get my new glasses...and guess what color they are?

They are much more attractive than these, and have
the added bonus of not making me look like Justin Bieber.
Completely coincidentally, I'm wearing a purple shirt today. OK, it's not a coincidence, because I own a bunch of purple shirts. Some are more blue-ish, and some are more red-ish, and some are just in-your-face Crayola purple. Oh, and not long ago I treated myself to a cute little jacket-wrap-shrug thing to throw on when my office gets chilly. It's purple. 'Cause I like purple, see?

In fact, as much I love my beautiful New Beetle, I've always thought my life would be just a tiny bit more complete it it were...well, you know.
If Barbie could have one, why couldn't I?
The only thing more awesome than purple is purple and green together.  And in optical illusion form, like this one from ScienceBlogs.com.

Just let it take you, man. Don't deny the purple.
Whoa.

Even nature loves purple, from frogs:

...to potatoes...

...to the elusive purple cow.

I'd rather see than be one.

And let's not forget Grimace.
Barney the Dinosaur? Total rip-off.
Honestly, I could put up purple stuff all day: Purple Haze, Purple People Eater, Deep Purple, Prince. But you get it. Don't hate me because I'm purple.

Man, I have a craving for grape juice right now...

(Hey, if you like purple, follow me! Just a thought.)
