And Precocious Boyfriend just invited her to prom.
And he asked her like this, OMG. |
Now.
I attended my senior prom in 1985. Mind you, my date was a completely platonic closeted gay man eight years older than me.
It will all be in the book.
But my point is...my dress was a full-length lavender gown with a gathered skirt, puffed sleeves, and a mesh insert above the shirred princess neckline.
You guys, I looked like the spinster bridesmaid at a cool friend's wedding.
But the prom theme was Phil Collins' "One More Night," so suck it, millennials. |
Not this, but...dear Jeebus, I hope not this. |
I might draw the line here. |
Still, I'm expecting this to be a highly emotional episode for me. So I'm asking:
If you've helped a young woman shop for a prom dress, do you have any advice?
If you've shopped for your own prom dress, do you have any advice?
If you're just happy to be asked for your opinion, do you have any advice?
I'm looking for advice, Drunkards.
Share. And I promise to let you know what PDaughter actually decides on. On which she actually decides. Whatever.
Dear 21st century: I was told prom would stop being awkward. WTF??
She may end up picking something that is nothing like what she described she wanted. Address for my junior prom I found right away. My senior prom dress took weeks. A lot of that was me looking on my own. I ended up finding something at Loehmann's for $25. My purse cost more than my dress that year. Honestly I bought my wedding dress faster than my senior prom dress.

ReplyDeleteI wish I could offer advice but I didn't go to a single dance in high school. And only one football game. I almost took a 33-year old friend who was six months pregnant to Homecoming, and I asked a dermatologist to Prom, but she wanted to keep our relationship professional.
ReplyDeleteI also just remembered I had a thing for Cosby sweaters so, yeah, even by 80's standards my taste in fashion is awful.
Didn't go to my prom.
ReplyDeleteI do remember the Phil Collins era, though. "One More Night" beats "Sussudio" as a prom theme, right?
My co-worker has been going through this with her daughter. Apparently, here at least, the style is long and body hugging and preferably a two piece so that the midriff is showing. That is where my friend drew the line. So I guess that's my advice, figure out where your line is.
