Six Things

I've been away from the blog for a couple of days, Drunkards. It hasn't been by choice. I'm not going to go into that.

Every picture tells a story, don't it?
But I've learned a few things over the past few days, and I will share those with you.

Thing #1: It really sucks not to write every day. I don't just love to do it. Turns out I kind of need to do it. Writing, especially writing here, fills some hole I wasn't entirely certain even existed until I had to go without filling it.

I know, how do you miss something like that?
Thing #2: Love is like matter. It can't be created or destroyed. It can change from one form to another, and it can disappear from one place and pop up in another. But if it exists at all, it's always out there somewhere.

An inelegant metaphor, but apt nonetheless.
Thing #3: There is a lot of love in my life. A hell of a lot more than I knew.

It's always where you least expect it.
Thing #4: My Precocious Daughter is hands down the most amazing person I know. She's way more kid than I deserve, and I'm pretty sure I'm way less mom than she deserves. She makes me laugh when I need to laugh. And she makes me cake on my birthday.

OK, so not this cake.
But hers is better. Honest.
Thing #5: The phrase "It gets better" is useful, and true, in all kinds of situations. It doesn't mean there's an easy way out of every foul mood or bad situation. And "better" doesn't just happen. Just as we've always been told, it takes heart and brains and courage.

Wrong, but also right.
Thing #6: Actions speak much, much louder than words. Even so, sometimes what they say is bullshit. Very, very loud bullshit.

It's a lot like that one-hand-clapping thing. All the answers
turn out to be bad punchlines.
So I'm going to try to write more, love more, eat more cake. Spend less time worrying about existential nimroddery and try to get my joy on. And share it here, with whoever is kind enough to come along for the journey.

Call it my birthday present to myself.

  1. I second those emotions! (Especially the cake part.)
    Happy Birthday, oh drunken blogger!

  2. There are worse things out there then licking the candles of your own birthday cake! Kudos for being such a good mom.

  3. 1. I know PD personally, and I agree, she's pretty darn amazing.

    2. Cake always makes things better. Eat lots of it, especially today.

    3. Happy Birthday!

    4. You are loved. Always remember that.

You're thinking it, you may as well type it. The only comments you'll regret are the ones you don't leave. Also, replies to threads make puppies grow big and strong.
