Note to My Younger Self: Nyah Nyah Nyah

In a few hours, I'll be 47 years old.

Rock on.
I can't begin to tell you how OK I am with that.

The Beatles' White Album was released when I was nine months old.

The maiden flight of the Concorde happened on my first birthday.

Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles the same day I turned 37.

I  was born 70 years to the day after Curly Lambeau (namesake of Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. DUH.)

DUH.
And Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance was born the day I turned nine.

Honestly, whatever, but it's my way of reaching out to
the younger demographic. #ShamelessPandering
I've long known that I share a birthday with Hugh Hefner.

Except that I'm 47 and he's, like, 315.

Although I just now learned that NASA's Mercury 7 were introduced on my birthday in 1959. (Only John Glenn survives. We should totally have a drink or something.)

Earlier today, Precocious Daughter suggested I write myself a birthday song. And I think tomorrow I'll do that thing. So keep watching this space.

Until then, keep in mind that in 1992 I was a 24 year old "Gen X slacker" who was going to bring down America as we knew it.

And now I'm a home-owning, tax-paying, white-collar worker who votes and all that shit.

I still don't trust the older generation, but pretty soon I will be the older generation.

So. Happy Birthday to me.

I know I'm happy.

Hope you're happy, too.

  1. Getting older is great, because we got all the great music instead of this crap kids are listening to today.

Except Gerard Way. I'm digging a little MCR.

  3. Hefner told me to tell you that he's only 836. He demands that you correct the age thing immediately.

  4. Happy birthday, and keep in mind the words of Homer Simpson: "Remember kids, don't trust anyone over thirty! And now...Peter Frampton!"

You're thinking it, you may as well type it. The only comments you'll regret are the ones you don't leave. Also, replies to threads make puppies grow big and strong.
