Jenerally Speaking

You always wish you could do more for a friend. But I can write a poem for my fellow blogger The Jeneral, who is having a sucky time of it right now.

I can also provide a sloth hug.
This also goes out to any of my Drunkards who need it. I've got your back, in a pretty insignificant but totally sincere way.

Skeleton
by Chuck Baudelaire

I know how it feels to be sad,
Hopeless, upset, and mad
At the world.
It feels like life just wants to bend you over
'Til you break,
You give it all you've got
But all you've got is what it takes
To get along.
I can't give you much,
But I can give you a song.

When life won't throw you a bone,
I will build you a skeleton
With a shield and a sword
And an attitude
To vanquish your enemies
With skeleton abilities,
An army of bone soldiers
Going into war...
But wait.
That's a pretty crappy metaphor.

All I wanted to say
Is that it's going to be OK.
You have love, you have friends...

And an army of skeletons.
Fuck yeah.

Fuck yeah.
P.S. This actually is a song with a melody, but since I don't write or play music, for now it's just lyrics. If I can figure out how to create a backing track, I'll ineptly record myself singing it and post it on my YouTube channel.

P.P.S. This is the time of year when people are willing to open their hearts and, more importantly, their wallets to people in need. Every donation to help a fellow human is a good thing; if you happen to want to make a difference in the real life of a specific person instead of simply giving to a faceless charity, consider visiting this page, where one of The Jeneral's friends has set up a fundraiser to help Jen and her kids bounce back from a rough patch.

Because she's kick-ass, and hey, someday it could be you having a sucky time, and karma is so definitely a thing. Thanks.

  1. Aww... I love your song. You're the bestest best lovey in the while wide world!

One of these days, I'll make it to where you are, and we'll share some laughs and hugs and enough vodka to knock out a small Russian army.

    I love you :)

  2. At this time of year I get happy because it's cold and a lot of people seem to be more cheerful, and then I get down because I see people decking each other over Furbies (or whatever's popular this year) instead of decking the halls, and I get yelled at by some people for saying "Happy Holidays" because they think holidays are like The Highlander and there can be only one.

And then I read this and it cheers me back up. And I want to give because, even if karma weren't a thing, helping others also cheers me up. Even if they're the type who yell at someone for saying "Happy Holidays".

You're thinking it, you may as well type it. The only comments you'll regret are the ones you don't leave. Also, replies to threads make puppies grow big and strong.
