The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2013 have been announced. They include blah blah blah don't care whoever AND RUSH.
|
Shown here being freaking awesome. |
Rush has been eligible for the Hall of Fame since 1999. This is the first time they've ever been nominated. Which I can understand, because in 2010 it was totally more important for the credibility of the genre that ABBA be nominated and inducted.
|
Nothing bespeaks the raw power of rock like four Swedes in matching kimonos. |
I'm not hating on ABBA. I love me some ABBA. I'm merely pointing out that somewhere out there is a person or persons who chose to enshrine the power-pop-synth-disco quartet among the pantheon of rock greats over Rush. Just sayin.
And in 2008, it made perfect sense to vote in Madonna instead of Geddy, Neil, and Alex.
|
But holy shit, she could whip them in a fair fight. |
Has Madonna ever recorded a "rock" song? Ever? Pfft. I'd like to hear her to try to sing "Tom Sawyer."
Um, no. Scratch that. I don't ever want to hear that. Not in my worst fever dream.
And don't even get me started on AC/DC. Because I just hate them.
|
Didn't they make a movie about these guys
and call it This Is Spinal Tap? |
I want Rush to make it to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. They're up against, among others, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Kraftwerk. Rap? Disco? Those aren't rock and roll. Popular music, important music, maybe even great music. Not rock music. Kraftwerk? Freaking
Kraftwerk?
|
And now we know who is on the nominating committee. |
To me, Rush in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a slam-dunk no-brainer. On the other hand, for more than a dozen years now they've been completely snubbed. I don't want to say that's because the nominations are handled by a bunch of assholes. But really...Neil Diamond is in but Neil Peart isn't?
|
Again, I adore Neil Diamond, but have you ever
listened to Jonathan Livingston Seagull? |
So listen up, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee. You finally righted a grave wrong this year by putting Rush on the ballot. But I need to see this band inducted. I need to see them rocking the Hall, Canadian prog-rock style. And I don't want to have to hold my breath until I turn various shades of blue and then die, which I will absolutely do if Rush doesn't get in this year.
Hissy fits. They are rock and roll.
Amen!

Can I be your girlfriend that night? I'll give you back.
DeleteBetter check with my lady. If she approves then we are on! :-)
DeleteYea, but another year goes by and one of the rock Gods, who should have been in the first year is still standing in the wings. His name, Link Wray, Who is the reason Pete Townsend picked up a guitar. Just watch the reverence Jimmy Page shows the old 45 of "Rumble" in the documentary, "It Might Get Loud".
ReplyDeleteAnd don't even get me started on Rory Gallagher.
But just like the music itself, the hangers-on have taken over a treasured institution for marketing purposes.
