And So This Is Christmas

Precocious Daughter and I put up our Christmas tree today.

Our first single-ladies, apartment-living Christmas tree.

I'd put a photo of it here, but damn my phone does a shitty job of taking pictures inside our apartment.

As far as you know, it looks just like this.
We listened to Christmas music while assembling and decorating the tree. Yeah, it's artificial this year. I couldn't quite commit to a real tree. Maybe next year. But Timmy the Tree (who of course we named) is just right for our space, and we don't have to worry about dragging him to the dumpster after the holidays. We'll put him in his box and stash him in a closet until next December, along with the ornaments and any semblance of being good Christians.

Christmas will be very different for us this year. I'm happy about it, albeit a bit nervous about the changes. Still, this is what I signed up for, this is what I wanted, this is my choice. And I'm pleased, even with the incumbent anxiety. I am hardly the first woman to face a post-marriage Christmas; I've got this.

Merry Christmas to all of my friends and loved ones. I don't care if you're Christian or not; I wish you the love and goodness of this season. If you're in my neck of the woods, stop by, and I'll bake you cookies. If you're not, send me a message and I'll respond with season's greetings.

  1. Happy Christmas! We have our trees up, but both need to be decorated proper. It's weird when you're in the middle of a new lot in life and the holidays roll in, but you're handling it all like a champ. Adore you, Chuck.

  4. Ours is more of a Charlie Brown tree. Matters not. Have a wonderful holiday! Son and I are going to visit my Mom over New Years' -- she is officially in "no detectable cancer" status. She and Jimmy Carter ;-) Happy New Year!

You're thinking it, you may as well type it. The only comments you'll regret are the ones you don't leave. Also, replies to threads make puppies grow big and strong.
