In just a few minutes as I'm writing this, the Hollywood Walk of Fame will dedicate its 2,447th star to Buddy Holly, who would have turned 75 years old today.
It's about damn time.
Buddy's entire recording career, from the date he signed his first contract to the night he died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, lasted three years. He was 22 years old when he died, and he left behind the most influential body of work since Robert Johnson. Popular music wouldn't sound the way it does if not for Buddy's music, and had he lived it would sound different still. He was an emerging genius - his work was brilliant, but his best years were clearly ahead of him.
I picked a few of my favorites. I could have posted a couple of dozen more. Just because it makes me so happy to listen to them.
Happy Birthday, Buddy. Thanks for what you left behind.

You're thinking it, you may as well type it. The only comments you'll regret are the ones you don't leave. Also, replies to threads make puppies grow big and strong.
