I was going to quote from the great Jimmy Stewart film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington to illustrate how I felt about yesterday's elections and about politics in general. But I decided to quote from another Jimmy Stewart movie instead: Harvey. If you've never seen it, do so. It's full of wisdom. Here's the quote:
"Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, 'In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.' Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me."
