October 25: This Day in Awesomeness

What is it about the 298th day of the year that makes it such a magnet for significant events touching the life of your Steadfast Blogger? Hell if I know. But every year October 25th rolls around (I personally haven't experienced a year when it hasn't - coincidence? I don't think so), and I stop and contemplate the many milestones that it commemorates.

As the years pile up, important events continue to attach themselves to this date; it's as if there's a cosmic magnetism there. Sort of like a temporal Wooly Willie wand, picking up bits of iron filings to create a mustache on the pudgy, comical face of my life. Now there's a metaphor you don't hear every day. How apt that I should think of it on October 25th. Everything converges, you see.

In any event, here's why today matters to me:

  • Today is the birthday of one of my oldest and dearest friends, Suemary Trobaugh. I love you, Susie!
  • On this day in 1982, I arrived in Texas, a scared kid from the South Side of Milwaukee transplanted to the suburban strangeness of Dallas.
  • Today is the wedding anniversary of Jen Flynn Bernard and her fabulous hubby, Tom Flynn Bernard. I've almost forgiven them for running off and marrying on the QT.
  • Today is also the birthday of one Jeffrey Gibbs, the most recent barnacle to attach itself to the personal signficance of this day. Happy Birthday, Jeffy!
That's a lot of important stuff to happen to have occurred on a single day. But if that weren't enough, October 25th is also the birthdate of a whole slew of prominent musicians (Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Richard Lloyd of Television, Jon Anderson of Yes), political media whore James Carville, artist Pablo Picasso, and the voice of Bart Simpson, Nancy Cartwright. It's also Republican Day in Kazakhstan and the anniversary of the death of Geoffrey Chaucer.

None of which touches me personally, but it's cool how much stuff you can Google. In any event, here's to October 25th, and to the Events of Great Signifance to Me that fall thereon. Thanks to everyone who makes it special.
