When You Come to a Fork in the Road...

Well, this isn't what I was going to write about today.

I was going to write about ways that liberal policies can be as full of BS as conservative policies. You know, typical rant for a Tuesday.

Instead, I got something else. You might call it a sign from God. Or not.

He does good work, but watch out for His timing.
Whatever. Here's the deal: I've just given myself six months to write a book.

Because in six months I may not have a job. Or maybe I will. The sign I got wasn't that clear.

Then again, don't all prayers generally
get the same response?

But it doesn't really matter. The point is, I just found out that in six months, something is going to happen to my current day job. That's not necessarily a bad thing; it could just mean I've been given a stunningly long headstart to find a new gig, something we working folk don't usually get, especially in this economy. It could simply mean my duties will change, maybe for the better, maybe not. Since when does that matter, as long as the checks don't bounce? Or it could mean nothing and my company is just dicking me around because that's what my company does best. This is a distinct possibility.

But I've decided to believe it means a cosmic deadline has presented itself. I have a hard time setting deadlines for my own goals as a rule, so I'm not going to take for granted one that has plopped itself squarely across my path 180 days down the road. I'm going to use that sucker.

I'm going to use it to write a book.

Which I've been planning to do ever since I started this little blog.

But I haven't done it.

But now I'm going to.

Don't patronize me, you stupid ball.
And I'm going to keep my day job, and keeping writing this blog, and drink, and vape, and embarrass my Precocious Daughter, and all the usual things I do. But in the next six months, I'm going to drag that book out of my brain and onto the page. Where it may sit, unread by anyone, forever. No matter. When life you gives you lemons, write a crappy book.

Not this one, though.
This one looks pretty awesome.
And when God gives you a sign, heed it.

Especially that one.
But most of all, as the immortal Yogi Berra said, when you come to a fork in the road...

Um...yeah.

...take it.

You're thinking it, you may as well type it. The only comments you'll regret are the ones you don't leave. Also, replies to threads make puppies grow big and strong.
